How the calculation works and where its limits are.
What are UTM parameters?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters are five standard query string tags (source, medium, campaign, term, content) added to URLs to track traffic sources and campaign conversions in Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and other analytics platforms.
Which UTM parameters are required?
At minimum, `utm_source` is required. In standard marketing practice, `utm_source`, `utm_medium`, and `utm_campaign` are strongly recommended together for coherent channel attribution in Google Analytics.
Are UTM parameter values case-sensitive?
Yes. In Google Analytics, `utm_source=Twitter` and `utm_source=twitter` are recorded as two distinct sources. It is best practice to use all lowercase with hyphens or underscores.
